About this session

You’ve already made your decision, and this session isn’t here to push it. It’s here to keep you company while you practise a calmer way to pause.

What you’ll experience

Tom opens with slow, easy breathing, letting the out-breath grow a little longer than the in-breath, then counts you down through a quiet house, one step at a time, with the air getting fresher on every landing. At the bottom is a room with an open window and clear morning air.

From there, the session uses that window as a picture for your own chest and throat. You’ll imagine each long breath out making more room. You’ll watch an urge the way you might watch a gust lift a curtain: it rises, peaks and settles. The old habit is treated with respect for the pause it once gave you, and with no blame about earlier attempts or slips.

You’ll also rehearse a few everyday moments, such as tomorrow’s first hot drink, a mid-afternoon break and a quiet evening. You’ll practise a discreet thumb-and-finger cue to bring the roomy feeling back. About 21 minutes, narrated by Tom.

How to use

Choose a quiet, comfortable place where you can sit or lie back and won’t be disturbed. Headphones are optional. Listen in the daytime, perhaps on a day off or after work, whether you’re a few days into stopping or the evening before. Replaying it helps the breathing and the image feel more familiar. Never listen while driving or operating machinery, or during anything that needs your attention.

Who it’s for

Adults who have decided to stop smoking and want a steadier, less argumentative relationship with the urge. It suits you if you’re tired of bargaining with yourself, if you’ve tried before, or if you’d like a simple breathing tool for tricky moments.

Safety & notes

This audio supports your own decision. It is not medical treatment, and it can’t promise that you’ll stop. A doctor, pharmacist or stop-smoking service can offer further support, and using both is fine. Stop listening if you feel unwell. Please don’t use this session if you have epilepsy or a serious mental health condition without asking your doctor first. If you feel very low or struggle to cope, speak with a health professional.

Relaxation deepens through the induction, stays deep while the suggestions are given, and rises again before the end.
